Students promote community health in Preston
Earlier this month, our Director of Education and Standards, Paul Buckley, attended the Preston Health Mela to speak about the work of the GMC and the role of doctors in the community.
The mela – a Sanskrit word meaning gathering – was organised by National Forum for Health and Wellbeing. The event promoted messages about health and the prevention of disease to the general community in a relaxed and fun environment.
At the event, students from Manchester Medical School carried out basic health checks (under supervision) and patients were given advice about keeping healthy.
Paul said ‘I was very impressed by the event itself, and particularly the enthusiasm and commitment of the Manchester students.’
