The Health Melas that are now running throughout the UK have been recognised by a medical working group specialising in the treatment and prevention of diabetes within minority ethnic communities.
On 24th March, a case study about the health melas appeared in ‘Diabetes in BME Communities’ – a publication dedicated to raising awareness, improving outcomes and sharing best practice. It was published by Mr V Sharma MP, chair of the working group.
The article notes that “At each event, healthcare professionals diagnose several new cases of diabetes, between five and eight cases of hypertension (high blood pressure) and between six and ten cases of high cholesterol.”
