Inspired by the health melas organised by the National Forum for Health and Wellbeing, one of its active member Shahid Kaleem organised a similar health event at the Raza Masjid in Deepdale, Preston on Saturday 28th October 2017.
The event was very successful with stall from Quit smoking, a local Pharmacy, falls prevention leaflets and Pathology. Amongst those who attended the event were Professor S Rajbhandari and Sarifa Kabir, secretary of NFHW. The event was supported by the volunteers from various organisations including the Health Olympics, Pathology and the Mosque. The Total number who attended health MOT was 68, all of British Asian, Pakistani/Indian descent
Findings
Glucose > 7.8 < 11.0 mmol/l = 8 of which 2 were known diabetics and the rest were post prandial.
Glucose > 11.0 mmol/l = 3 of which 2 known diabetics and 1 unknown with high reading was referred to GP for investigation.
Cholesterol >5.0 <6.0 mmol/l = 36
Cholesterol >6.0 <7.0 mmol/l = 12
Cholesterol >7.0 mmol/l = 2
The feedback about the event was excellent. People loved the event and wanted to know when the next one would be arranged.
