Visitors will find, under one roof, a treasure chest of resources and activities related to family and community Health and Wellbeing, all hosted by a team of enthusiastic volunteer health professionals and students. Take your pick from the stalls, staffed by friendly experts who can provide information on most things you might want to know on health-related topics or take time out to watch stage performances illustrating health and wellbeing in its widest aspects.
Look over the competition entries for designing a menu for a healthy school lunch-box or choose one of the winning recipes for a delicious smoothie drink then pedal away on the smoothie bike to make it a reality!
Most important of all – take a health MOT. This comprehensive check, offered free to all visitors, includes blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol and BMI and all participants are offered free expert advice on health and life-style.
The Mela, in collaboration with Academy@Worden, and supported by the Rotary Club of Leyland, is now a major annual event in the Leyland calendar. It will be opened this year by Guest of Honour, Amanda Hatton, Director of Children’s Services at Lancashire County Council. Please note that entrance to the Mela, health checks and car-parking are all free of charge.

The Breakfast Meeting
As an integral part of every Health Mela, before the event is formally opened to the public, the organisers host a Breakfast Meeting for invited guests which focuses on a contemporary issue. This year’s theme for Leyland is ‘The Challenge of Childhood Obesity’.
