The National Forum for Health and Wellbeing (NFHW) is marking a significant milestone this year as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. The year-long celebrations will commence on Saturday 7 March at 2 PM at the Gujarat Hindu Society (GHS) premises, the very place where the organisation began its journey 25 years ago under the name Lancashire Gujrat Health Users’ Forum.
Over the past quarter of a century, NFHW has worked tirelessly to promote public engagement and health awareness within communities across the UK. The organisation has successfully delivered nearly 70 Health Melas, alongside numerous health engagement seminars and countless health-related talks and activities nationwide. The innovative approaches and community-focused concepts pioneered by NFHW have gone on to inspire similar initiatives internationally, including in countries such as India and Libya.
Under the chairmanship of Professor Romesh Gupta OBE, the organisation has grown significantly, developing strong partnerships with a wide range of health and educational institutions, local councils, and health service providers.
Speaking about the anniversary celebrations, Professor Gupta said:
“It gives me immense pleasure to see the organisation which started its activities in these GHS premises grow to celebrate its 25 successful years.
Over these years, we have made efforts to increase health awareness amongst several local communities so that individuals could take control of their own health. In partnership and collaboration with several primary and secondary schools, higher education institutions, public bodies, medical Royal Colleges, councils, as well as the NHS, NFHW has made an impact to empower individuals about prevention and healthcare.
I am glad that the message has spread beyond this island to other countries as well.”
The anniversary celebrations on 7 March will be officially inaugurated by the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Mrs Amanda Parker JP, who will attend as the Chief Guest. Several national and local dignitaries will also be present to mark the occasion.
The event will feature a variety of health-related stalls, along with cultural performances including Indian dances and music, and live demonstrations of Tai Chi and Qigong exercises. Attendees will also have the opportunity to benefit from free health checks.
